ATAG is partnering with BloombergNEF to organise an event on Sustainable aviation fuel: financing the scale-up in Paris La Défense, on Thursday 19 June 2025.
Sustainable aviation fuel – or SAF – is one of the key levers for the decarbonisation of the global air transport sector. The nascent SAF industry continues to show promise, with the number of offtake agreements rising in the past two years as airlines demonstrate their commitment to the fuel and new projects boost production capacity. But hurdles remain, namely scarcity of supply, competition for resources, and a lack significant capital flow towards projects. This event will explain the challenges and next steps to financing the scale-up of SAF, as well as the potential rewards.
The event is principally for the finance community and investors. For more information and online registration, please refer to the BloombergNEF website.
AGENDA
13:30-14:00 Registration and networking
A look at the overall path to net-zero and the role of the different levers of mitigation available to aviation.
Environmental regulations and fiscal policies have already affected the SAF market in Europe, North America and elsewhere. The industry has been growing and the production project pipeline implies a tenfold increase in SAF capacity by 2030.
However, as new announced projects look more like small startups than big oil, financing is more important than ever. All eyes are on long-term offtakes, and take-or-pay guarantees, but are airlines in a place to commit? Can traditional project financing models adapt, and what needs to turn proposed projects into production?
This panel will discuss the challenges and opportunities of investing in SAF and what is needed to grow the industry to the level required to meet emissions reduction targets.
15:20 - 15:40 Networking break
Event participants will be divided into discussion groups. Each group will be allocated a specific question related to financing the scale-up of SAF.
A spokesperson for each roundtable will be invited to provide a summary of the topic discussed.
This conversation will consider how opportunities for SAF production in Brazil and the wider Latin American landscape could progress ahead of the upcoming COP30 meeting.
17:00 - 19:00 Networking reception
