ATAG Path to Net Zero Briefings

ATAG is continuing to organise Path to Net Zero Briefings for its membership and the wider industry in 2025.

These virtual sessions address topics related to sustainability. Eight briefings took place in 2024 and one so far in 2025. Since the last ATAG Member Briefing, the following topics have been covered:

  • Briefing 11, on the UNFCCC COP 29, ICAO’s activities, SAF outreach and aviation’s non-CO2 impacts.
  • Briefing 12, on greenwashing and green claims. This session included a presentation from Dr. Constantin Eikel, from the law firm Bird & Bird, who provided excellent advice on tackling greenwashing and the changing landscape of regulations and reporting requirements. He defined green marketing, what is considered as misleading practices, how NGOs and activists target alleged greenwashing claims, EU Directives on green claims and their implications, guidance from various countries and actions against greenwashing, recommendations and pitfalls in environmental advertising. The session also provided some guidelines from ATAG on how to continue communicating while taking on board legislation on green claims. The recording is available here. This is for ATAG members only, please do not share.
  • Briefing 13, which addressed the subject of anti-tourism protests that have been taking place in several traditional tourist destinations across Europe. A representative of the World Travel and Tourism Council explained how local tourism authorities are handling these.
  • Briefing 14, during which Aercap provided an update on EU taxonomy and aviation. Kata Cserep from PA Consulting also presented their work to map the various initiatives to scale up sustainable aviation fuel production.
  • Briefing 15, on COP 29 preparations.
  • Briefing 16, during which further information was provided by Aercap on the EU’s green taxonomy discussions.
  • Briefing 17, which presented the headline data from ATAG’s new Aviation: Benefits Beyond Borders report and COP 29 outcomes.
  • Briefing 18, which outlined ATAG’s key priorities for 2025 and included a presentation by Alexandre de Joybert from ACI Europe on the European aviation sector’s new decarbonisation roadmap: Destination 2050 – a route to net zero European aviation.
