In May 2025, ATAG published the first version of its Sustainability Communications Guidebook. The Guidebook provides industry colleagues with best practices for communicating on sustainability issues and advice on how to avoid accusations of greenwashing. It reinforces that aviation has a great story to tell, with the goal of flying net zero by 2050 being a driver of continued progress. The Guidebook also includes a green claims checklist for aviation communicators, which serves as a quick reference tool when drafting, reviewing or approving communications that include environmental claims.
In July 2025, ATAG hosted a webinar on “How to steer clear of greenwashing: best practices for sustainability communications”. Over 300 industry representatives registered for the session. As well as presenting the material from the Sustainability Communications Guidebook, the session included a presentation from Dr. Constantin Eikel, who is a partner in the legal firm Bird & Bird and who specialises in providing advice on international green advertising campaigns and their compliance.
