Industry collaboration

The central purpose of ATAG is to bring together all sectors of the global aviation industry and provide a forum in which to address issues of importance to the entire industry. In recent years, much of ATAG’s work within the industry has been focused on reducing aviation emissions.

The significant progress made on this issue is largely due to the active engagement of ATAG’s high-level Board who, along with a small secretariat staff, have the strategic best interests of the aviation industry front-of-mind, rather than acting individually on behalf of one company or sector. Importantly, at a number of key UN International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) meetings, ATAG has presented on behalf of the whole industry delivering a powerful message to the world’s governments about aviation’s joint commitment on environment.

Since 2005, ATAG has also organised the Aviation & Environment Summit, which later became the Global Sustainable Aviation Summit. This event brings together airlines, airports, manufacturers, air navigation services providers and other industry players to address environmental issues of common concern. This industry-led event is co-organised with Airports Council International (ACI), the International Air Transport Association (IATA), the Civil Air Navigation Services Organisation (CANSO) and the International Coordinating Council of Aerospace Industries Associations (ICCAIA). The Summit is the only global, high level aviation and environmental event of its kind, and was set up to ensure that all industry players are able to meet on a regular basis to discuss and address environmental issues and challenges and, where possible, seek coordinated solutions.
